In just-released Version 2, avail now includes data from the 2000 Census Special Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Tabulation to calculate labor market availability. Data from Dataset 8 (detailed occupational data for workplace counties with workforces of 50,000 or more) and from Dataset 1 (residence data for states, metropolitan areas, and county sets for the detailed occupational classifications) are available. County Set is a new geographical enumeration in the 2000 Census. Because of privacy concerns, the Bureau of the Census would only release detailed occupational data for counties of at least 50,000. Counties with less than 50,000 were combined with adjacent counties to form “county sets.”
Note that in 2000, Census reports race and ethnicity differently from prior years. The number identifying as Hispanic is reported, and for those reporting non-Hispanic, race is reported for the five single races (White, Black, Asian, American Indian/Alaskan Native, and Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander), for the four most populous multi-racial categories (Black/White, Asian/White, American Indian/White, and American Indian/Black), and for the balance of multi-racial categories. However, in EEOSTAT, the multi-racial categories are folded into the five single race categories by adding minority/white counts to the corresponding minority count and by adding American Indian/Black to Black. Additional data from the EEO Tabulation are available on the web at Census 2000 EEO Data Tool. For more information go to the Census Bureau's explanatory site.
